I am very disappointed with EPA's approval of this TMDL plan. Throughout my involvement in this issue, the Idaho stakeholders have demonstrated a strong commitment to improve the water quality of the Spokane River. They have been trying all along to work with Ecology and the EPA for a reasonable outcome. It's pretty clear that Idaho's concerns fell on deaf ears.
This loan guarantee from the Department of Energy is a crucial step in meeting the demand for a reliable, U.S.-based source of enriched uranium to fuel our nuclear power plants. It is also a great benefit to our local communities and the state for the positive economic impact the new construction and permanent operation jobs that will come about from this facility.
I have been very pleased with the progress of the cleanup project at INL under the leadership of Rick Provencher. As DOE's new Idaho manager, I am confident Rick will continue to achieve positive results at this renowned national lab.
This type of research is at the core of our land grant schools. With this funding they can continue their research and find solutions to water issues that impact our communities and citizens.
Over the coming months, I will be looking closely at Solicitor General Elena Kagan's academic and public service record and listening closely as she goes before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“Moving this bill out of the Energy Committee is an important step toward keeping Idahoans at work on these projects. It will also result in additional capacity for production of clean, renewable energy,”
Our thoughts are with the families whose loved ones will be deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. We are pleased that the Idaho National Guard will be providing family support training sessions to help prepare them for the deployment. We have always supported efforts to ensure our military men and women have the resources they need to carry out and complete their missions successfully.
Brian Underwood will serve our state well in his new role as U.S. Marshal. Brian is an Idaho native and has worked extensively in law enforcement at the city and state level, as an officer and in management. The nomination process has worked well to produce a U.S. Marshal all Idahoans can be proud of. We also want to thank Pat McDonald for his eight years of service as Idaho's outgoing U.S. Marshal.
One of my priorities in setting up my website was to make it easy for Idahoans to let me know their views on issues to be voted on.
There is no doubt that Idahoans were impacted by nuclear testing done years ago. They deserve help for the health effects they have suffered and this bill is a way to provide that.
