Assisting Idahoans with federal issues and concerns is my top priority and having a more accessible office will help do that. I encourage all those living in the Magic Valley with questions, comments or other concerns to call or stop by for assistance.
This event is always a pleasure to take part in and just like last year, Vicki, gets all the credit for putting together our winning dish. It was so popular with the crowd that we had a hard time keeping up with demand at our serving table.
Recently a World War II veteran stopped by my office and shared his stories of storming the beach at Normandy and of fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. It was an honor to hear his story and this project provides a way to make sure our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have that same opportunity.
Our veterans willingly sacrifice all for our country and we have an obligation to see they can use the benefits they have earned. Many are already doing so at the College of Western Idaho and our other degree schools. This legislation simply expands the options for our veterans to get the valuable training they need to make a living and it does so at no additional cost.
Over the past year, I have heard repeatedly from ranchers who have been pushed to the brink of going out of business as a result of wolf predation. At the same time, Bechtel BWXT Idaho LLC and its workforce are to be strongly commended for its record in meeting all of the settlement agreement milestones in a safe and compliant manner.
This so-called fix is more expensive than the original and includes yet another massive government takeover-this time on the student loan program. I will continue to work with my colleagues to repeal the many takeover and tax increasing portions of this bill and replace them with the real cost-cutting reforms Americans want.
The President promised and gave his word that he would not raise taxes on a family making less than $250,000, yet this change directly raises taxes on 14.7 million people who make less than that. The President broke his word. It is a step backwards for some of the most vulnerable Americans. My amendment would change that and reinstate the 7.5 percent threshold.
I am pleased the Forest Service agreed with our call to not penalize seniors and the disabled by reducing their campground discounts. This was the right thing to do.
Our Idaho dairy producers can compete with anyone as long as there is a level playing field. These negotiations must ensure that our producers are not harmed by anti-competitive practices and that they have the same access to world markets.
