While the decision by the Payette National Forest has been released, the bighorn and domestic sheep issue is far from resolved.

The Air Force determined that housing three squadrons of F-35s at Mountain Home or Gowen Field would have required additional construction costs. That determination is disappointing because all of the sites chosen will require new construction to accommodate three squadrons.

It is imperative that the state and communities where a monument could be located have a voice in the designation, and that Congress play a role in the process.

The SRSCA is not an entitlement program, but rather a demonstration of the commitment that this nation made to rural forest counties when it determined that large blocks (193 million acres in total) of our forest lands should be set aside for the benefit of the entire nation.
