A broad domestic energy supply is critical for America to grow its economy. This plan helps accomplish that by putting renewable energies under a similar framework as conventional energy sources. It also requires royalty payments that will benefit Idahoans in the counties and states where the projects occur.

Today nearly every member of the Senate has called on President Obama to use every diplomatic tool in the box to make sure Pastor Saeed Abedini and the three other Americans being held by Iran are released. We will continue to battle to obtain the release of Pastor Abedini.
I am glad to announce that the Senate subcommittee of jurisdiction will hold a hearing on this bill that is so important to so many Idahoans. Through a truly collaborative effort, Congressman Simpson has crafted this legislation that is truly an Idaho bill. I look forward to discussing it further with my colleagues on the Subcommittee on Public Lands, Forests and Mining in the coming weeks.
It is only right that the President should ensure Iran frees Pastor Abedini and the other Americans they have held captive for too many years before the United States provides any sanctions relief. In its current state, the Iran deal is a bad deal for America. The government in Iran stands only to gain from the agreement they are making with the Obama administration. I’m glad that commonsense has prevailed and Congress will at least have the opportunity to review the final deal, but there is still more that must be done to help our fellow Americans being held in

Like so many Americans, the people of Idaho are working to provide supplies and relief to the people of Nepal during this time. We will continue our efforts to support Nepal and the region in the coming days and months as they work to recover and rebuild.
Already a national leader in research and development of U.S. renewable energy options, the INL's expertise continues to be recognized and utilized across America and the globe. The INL and the Snake River Geothermal Consortium are very deserving of this distinction and with increased funding will have even greater opportunity to continue their great work.
