Having been recently briefed in a classified setting as to the methods and process used to vet potential refugees, I have serious reservations about the effectiveness and the guarantees currently in place which allows people into the United States from this region of the world. This government program is no different than other federal programs in which the government attempts to handle sizable undertakings, such as the response to Hurricane Katrina and the roll-out of Obamacare. The safety of Americans is the first and most important responsibility of the government. The current process simply cannot guarantee our safety under these
Interning in the U.S. Senate is an excellent way to learn about the legislative branch of government and to see where much of our nation’s early history took place. Emily and Devin have served Idaho well during their internship and each has a bright future ahead.
The increase in the grizzly bear population in recent years has led to more grizzly bears being in close proximity to homes, and worse, more bear and human interactions. The Fish and Wildlife Service can and should make the necessary changes to keep humans safe and responsibly manage the grizzly bear population. Ashe has heard, loud and clear, that Idahoans have major concerns with grizzlies in our backyards.
The Naval Reactors Facility at the INL is vital to the future of our nuclear Navy and our national security overall. After meeting with Admiral Caldwell today in Washington I am confident that the future of the program is in very capable hands.
My home state of Idaho is fortunate to have the Idaho National Laboratory located in Idaho Falls. The INL has a rich history dating from the dawn of commercial nuclear power and the launching of the nuclear Navy. Today, the INL is the nation's lead nuclear laboratory as well as a world leader in securing the ever-growing cyber network. The valuable work done at the Idaho National Laboratory lays the groundwork for extending the life of the nuclear fleet, fortifying the grid and wireless networks, and developing advanced battery storage capabilities – which are just a few among many, many
Washington, DC – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy, announced today that he, Senator Jim Risch (R-ID), and Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) are introducing the North Korea Sanctions and Policy Enhancement Act of 2015 (NKSPEA). NKSPEA includes broad new sanctions against individuals […]
While I am pleased Secretary Jewell has acknowledged the greater sage-grouse population is on the rebound, I am concerned the regulations generated by the Department of the Interior to reach this decision will do little to continue the recent population rebound in Idaho. We had pressed DOI early on to rely on a locally-driven, collaborative process to conserve the sage-grouse, but this process changed when it came to Washington, D.C. The two main threats to the greater sage-grouse in Idaho are fire and invasive species. The Secretary adopts a plan that relies heavily on regulation of the mining, oil, and
This agreement is indefensible, but President Obama will not have to defend it. In addition, even with all the pressure we could assert the administration left behind the American prisoners being held in Iran, including Idahoan Pastor Saeed Abedini.

Through a collaborative effort, Congressman Simpson crafted this legislation that is truly an Idaho bill. Regardless of where people are on this issue there isn’t anyone who would disagree that the heart of this area is one of the most remarkable places in the world. The bill identifies that land for management as well as wilderness and releases 153,000 acres from de facto wilderness. Importantly, a vast and diverse coalition of the land users and preservationists came together as a result of Congressman Simpson’s work and created an Idaho solution. I am glad to see that every one of my
