WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) introduced a constitutional amendment to limit the Supreme Court to no more than nine justices. The Supreme Court has had nine justices since 1869.

“The Supreme Court has stood as a nonpartisan institution for over 150 years. Now, Democrats are threatening to politicize it by packing the Court with leftist appointees who will further their radical agenda. Packing the Court would deeply undermine our democracy and the American people’s confidence in our government. This constitutional amendment would ensure justices do not legislate from the bench but apply the law as written to the facts of the case,”  said Risch.

Additional cosponsors of this constitutional amendment include Senators Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Shelly Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), and Todd Young (R-Ind.)
