As a rancher and the Senate’s only trained forester, Senator Risch is a leading voice on issues facing Idaho and the West. Senator Risch is a senior member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, which oversees critical issues such as nuclear, hydroelectric, and other energy production, mining, grazing, timber production, and oil and gas leasing on public lands, western water, and national parks.

Senator Risch is the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee for the 119th Congress. He previously served as Chairman during the 116th Congress and has been the senior most Republican member since January 2019. As Chairman, Senator Risch prioritizes protecting the security and interests of the American people. The Committee leads work on foreign policy legislation, oversight of foreign policy agencies, diplomatic nominations, and international treaties.

As the former chairman and current member of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, Senator Risch has passed legislation to cut red tape, expand access to capital, and modernize federal programs that support entrepreneurs and job creators. The Committee oversees proposed legislation and matters relating to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The Select Committee on Ethics investigates complaints and allegations of improper conduct and violations of the Senate Code of Official Conduct. The Committee also suggests new rules to ensure that the Code of Conduct is upheld and, when appropriate, can recommend disciplinary action.

The Select Committee on Intelligence oversees U.S. intelligence activities and programs. Its primary duties are to ensure that intelligence activities align with the Constitution and U.S. law, and that the appropriate government departments and agencies communicate intelligence information in a complete and timely fashion to the President and Congress.
