SHUTDOWN: My office is temporarily restricted to functions necessary to support constitutional duties. We will continue to use every resource to assist Idahoans.

“I am committed to advocating for Idahoans, saving taxpayer dollars, and ensuring our federal government reopens expeditiously. My staff and I remain working on behalf of Idahoans,” said Senator Risch.

While the federal government is shutdown, Senator Risch’s Office is legally required to only perform operations that are in support of constitutional duties. The Senator and his staff remain working regardless of the shutdown but are limited in what they are allowed to do.

The Office will continue to advocate for Idahoans with federal agencies. However, agencies will be operating with a reduced workforce and therefore will likely experience a backlog due to the shutdown. Senator Risch’s team will act as quickly as possible to address any delays and related issues once the shutdown ends.

Services not affected by a shutdown include:

  • passport processing;
  • issuance of social security checks;
  • daily mail delivery by USPS;
  • current Medicare, Medicaid, and veteran beneficiaries’ benefits;
  • benefits for retirees from the federal government and military;
  • VA facilities’ operations; and
  • state and local governance.

The Capitol building will be closed to tours during the shutdown, regardless of when they were scheduled. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.
