Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jim Risch has selected four college students from around the state of Idaho to serve as spring interns in his Washington, D.C. office and one student to serve as an intern in his Idaho Falls office. The interns have the opportunity to engage in the national level of government while assisting with constituent services and legislative research.

“Interning in the United States Senate is an excellent way to learn about the legislative branch of government and to see where much of our nation’s early history took place,” said Risch. “This group of interns is well qualified and will serve Idaho very well.”

The interns are:

Washington, D.C.

Jordan Cook, a senior at BYU-Idaho and native of Shelley, studies Political Science with an emphasis in Foreign Affairs and is pursuing a minor in International Studies. He is married to Caitlin Cook and they have an 11-month old son, Calvin. His parents are Jim and Amy Cook of Shelley. Jordan is also certifiable as a police officer in the state of Idaho.

Juan “Johnny” Manuel Martinez is a junior at Idaho State University in Pocatello and native of American Falls. Johnny is pursuing a degree in Political Science and has previously interned in Senator Mike Crapo’s Pocatello office. His parents are Juan and Jovita Martinez of American Falls and he will be the first member of his family to graduate college. Johnny is also an amateur Mixed Martial Arts competitor in Idaho.

Colter Hathaway, a graduate of BYU-Idaho and native of Chester, has a degree in Political Science with a Foreign Affairs Emphasis and a minor in Russian language. He is married to Aubrey Hathaway and is the son of Val and Rayla Hathaway. Colter has served Idaho as a firefighter, as an intern in Congressman Mike Simpson’s Idaho Falls office and also has talents in carpentry and construction.

Lindsay Mock is a graduate of BYU-Idaho and Kansas State University and native of Silverdale, Washington. Lindsay has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from BYI-Idaho and a master’s degree in American Government from Kansas State. She is the daughter of Charles Mock and Terri Nilsen. She previously served as a Field Representative for the College Republican National Committee during the 2012 Presidential campaign.

Idaho Falls

Kristin Grant is a senior at BYU-Idaho and native of Pasadena, California. Kristin is pursuing a degree in Political Science with a minor in Sociology.
