President Obama has again crafted a budget that taxes more, spends more, and adds to our ever-increasing $18 trillion national debt. This job-killing budget does not accomplish the one thing that American families need, and that is more money in their pocket. American families have seen their paychecks go down by an average of three thousand dollars under Obama, and this budget shows that more pain is on the way. The Keystone Pipeline will create thousands of jobs and invest billions of dollars in the economy. I have fought for years to get this project approved and am glad that the Senate has finally been able to take action, ending this inexcusable delay of private investment in our economy. This pipeline is the kind of project that will create the jobs America really needs.
These two young Idahoans are very deserving of this distinction. Caitlin's and Amanda's leadership at their respective high schools and in their communities is admirable and in the spirit of our great state. I’m proud of their hard work and look forward to welcoming them to Washington, D.C., later this spring.
The monument designation process is in sore need of greater transparency. This legislation would require public hearings for Idahoans to express their views on proposed monuments. Currently, citizens in the affected communities have no way to formally express their concerns. It would also require Congressional approval of a proposed monument which would keep the president from designating a monument based on the administration’s agenda, without public input.
What I heard from the president was the same old, tired plan to continue a legacy of more federal intervention, more regulation, more taxes, more spending, and more borrowing. Our national debt continues to grow at unprecedented levels, from ten trillion to eighteen trillion under this president, threatening the future of our children and grandchildren, and indeed the future of our great nation.
The United States stands in solemn solidarity with our friends and allies in France and condemns in the strongest terms the cowardly terrorist attacks that took place in and around Paris. Our resolution honors the lives of those lost and reaffirms the Senate’s outrage against the atrocities and violence we witnessed last week. Now is the time for the international community to come together against acts of terror and support our allies as they bring the perpetrators of such violence to justice.
