Serving on this committee is a constitutional responsibility I take very seriously. Our justice system requires us to be impartial stewards and it is imperative that we look only to the evidence and facts of this case.

This Committee had a chance to put together a comprehensive bill that addressed our real energy needs. Instead we ended up with a bill that focuses on a narrow segment of the problem and does little to promote dependable, secure, or clean energy production.

This class of interns is an impressive bunch. Their variety of experiences and studies will be an asset as we work together to serve the people of Idaho.

It is very beneficial to have someone of Corey's expertise step into the legislative director position. His vast experience with energy issues, along with his knowledge of the Idaho National Laboratory and Capitol Hill will be invaluable.

We need to have a dependable source of energy for our country that does not emit greenhouse gases. Nuclear energy does that. But we also need a reliable source of enriched uranium to fuel our nuclear plants and the Eagle Rock facility will meet that need.

I am not willing to give up on salmon recovery efforts. This program is working and it must receive funding if we are to continue with habitat improvements for salmon.

Confirmation of a judge, especially to the Supreme Court of the United States, is a major decision. This is a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land and I take this responsibility very seriously.

Idaho has a strong connection with Abraham Lincoln from his involvement in the creation of the Idaho territory to the county named in his honor.
