Press Releases

“Eight years ago today the United States was attacked by terrorists who caused the deaths of thousands of innocent men, women and children, along with hundreds of first responders. It is important to all Americans we remember that day and honor the memory of those who died. We must also honor those who work each day to keep our country safe. Many are putting their lives at risk to prevent another attack on our soil. To all of them we give our thanks for their service.”
The contracts awarded to Idaho researchers and companies show the important role our state continues to play in national defense through the development of equipment and technologies that make the jobs of our military men and women more effective and safe.
As always the President delivered an excellent speech. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. He promised us in the speech that he would give us details, but none were forthcoming. The President continues to promote the false choice of a complete government takeover or doing nothing. We actually have another choice, targeting specific areas of our current system to make coverage affordable to all. We need to break down the specific areas and pass legislation that will actually fix problems. And we must know the consequences of that legislation for Idahoans before it is implemented.
I am pleased that the judge has allowed wolf hunting in Idaho to continue, and I hope this brings an end to lawsuits opposing the hunt. Wolf numbers have far exceeded the recovery goals set when they were introduced into the state. It is time to let Idaho's game managers do their job and manage wolves just as they do bears, cats and other species.
Barbara has a proven track record of service to Idaho. She was a great asset when I was in the governor's office and I'm glad to have her help in Washington, D.C.
Attending one of the Service Academies is both a great honor and a service to our country and its citizens. It opens the door to some tremendous career and life opportunities.
Although I did not have an opportunity to serve with Senator Kennedy for very long, he treated me very civilly. We did not agree with each others' politics but he was always personable. He worked hard on issues and reached across the aisle to build consensus. His passing marks the end of an era in American politics.
We write in support of your effort to encourage Arab states to normalize relations with the State of Israel. In your June 4th address to the Muslim world, you highlighted the key role that Arab states can play in furthering the peace process and called on them to openly recognize Israel's legitimacy.
The President's decision to kill the nation's congressionally-directed repository for high-level nuclear waste as a favor to one state is politics at its worst. This is a political deal that flies in the face of our nation's energy security as well as the Settlement Agreement that the state of Idaho reached with the federal government in 1995.
A growing population and aging infrastructure has once again made transportation a top priority for federal dollars. Funding these projects improves access and safety on some of Idaho's most-travelled stretches of road while providing much-needed jobs for our workforce.
