Time and again the federal government has demonstrated it is not capable of living within its financial means. This legislation would force Congress to balance the budget, work at creating jobs and will help save America from the debt crisis we are facing.
The stuff that goes on here does not surprise me at all, except the cavalier attitude that this city and Congress have for the value of money. It just astounds me that in this institution they do not stop spending money when they hit the end of the budget or think to stop spending when they hit the end of their resources. They stop spending money when they run out of time. That seems to be the only sideboard on how much money is spent.
In matters involving natural resources there must be a balance between conservation and use. This legislation correctly restores that balance and maintains state management authority that has been successfully used for decades, said Risch.
We want Idahoans and the nation to remember that Sgt. Bergdahl continues to be held by Islamic extremists. His safe return to the United States and his family in Hailey continues to be a top priority for the U.S. Military and Intelligence community. A balanced budget amendment is absolutely necessary if we are going to stop run-away spending by the federal government. This tour was an opportunity to understand first-hand the enormous challenge facing military pesonnel and lawyers that work to keep America safe. I was able to tour the legal and detention facilities, as well as talk with a number of military personnel and lawyers about how the United States treats and handles detainees from the global war on terror,
Reliable and lower-cost energy is the backbone of any successful economy and must be expanded to meet future needs. In Idaho and much of the west, geothermal energy is a largely untapped source of clean energy. This bill encourages its development and expansion by removing a layer of red tape that holds up production at geothermal facilities.
It was a productive meeting as we discussed several critical issues. We talked about our shared concerns for Israel's peace and security in the region and the effects that instability here can have on Americans at home.
This announcement means we will, of course, continue cleanup at the INL site, protecting Idaho’s environment and economy. I am hopeful that it is further indication that the administration intends to live up to its legal obligations by removing all waste from Idaho.
