I fully support an independent commission to review the Army’s decision and make recommendations to Congress. Although a commission would force a pause in the decision process, a pause is better than a hasty move that could have negative implications on the National Guard and our nation's overall war-fighting ability.

Earlier this year, we invited General Welsh to Idaho to tour our world-class facilities and witness the dedication of our service members. We were very encouraged to hear this week that General Welsh made his trip to Idaho official. In light of our efforts to support the Idaho National Guard, we are especially pleased General Welsh has decided to spend time in both Boise and Mountain Home. I've got a constituent, Pastor Abedini, who is in prison [in Iran]. John, you've got to do something about this. You sit across the table from these people. There is no reason he should be in prison today. You cut loose hundreds of millions of dollars to those people; you've relaxed some of the sanctions. Please, help these people. Tell the Iranians you are not going to do anything more for them until they release him and the two other people that they are holding against all international law, against all human rights, and against any definition of morality.
