Senator Condemns the Attacks on U.S. Missions in Libya and Egypt

Calls for Investigation into attacks

September 12, 2012

Washington, DC— U.S. Senator James E. Risch, Ranking Member of the Near East Subcommittee on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, extends his sympathies and calls on the administration to conduct a full investigation of the attacks on our missions and personnel in North Africa.

“I extend my deepest sympathies to those who lost loved ones in these vicious attacks.  They made the ultimate sacrifice for America and the cause of freedom and I mourn their loss," said Risch.

"The tragic events in Egypt and Libya are both shocking and senseless, and I share the outrage of my fellow Americans.  America cannot tolerate attacks against our citizens and values.

"Since these events occurred on September 11th, I call on the Obama administration to investigate what happened and whether these attacks were coordinated.  I appreciate the statements made by the Libyan government concerning these acts and urge them to follow through on pursuing these perpetrators.

"I have met Ambassador Stevens and found him to be a knowledgeable, talented, and well-spoken diplomat.   My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the families of those who lost loved ones in this attack.”
