Washington, D.C. – Idaho Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch today voted against suspending the debt limit for three months.  The full Senate passed H.R. 325, which suspends the borrowing limit of $16.4 trillion until May 19, on a 64-34 vote.

Senators Crapo and Risch issued the following joint statement after the vote:

"Budget agreements in the last Congress set the precedent that any increase in the debt ceiling should be equally matched with spending cuts.  An amendment offered by our colleague, Senator Rob Portman (R-OH), would have done just that, but unfortunately was defeated.  Therefore, we could not support this legislation.  Washington must practice financial restraint and get our spending problem under control."
